The long awaited deal is confirmed - ‘Oracle buys Sun Microsystems’. Latest flash news from Sun’s official website: http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/pr/2009-04/sunflash.20090420.1.xml

Valuing each share at $9.50 (NASDAQ:JAVA), the whole deal is approximated at $ 7.4 billion dollar. Sun Microsystems has been believed to be not doing well and not generating much revenue. Thought Sun has been getting decent revenue from Hardware market, it didn’t care much to commercialize Java based software market. And, Solaris has not been doing great too. Finally, Sun goes into someone’s hand as expected.

Not, sure whether Sun Microsystems will continue to be a different entity or part of Oracle. But, being part of Java developer community, we wish Sun continues to be an individual entity, keeps and maintain its existing technology standards and encourages global developer community.

Sun would have bought Oracle, if it has commercialized Java. Poor Sun. This deal is Perfect example of what would happen if company doesn’t generate revenue…!

Sounds like a good deal that would work out for Sun, Oracle and the java community :)
