You could find hundreds of thousands of result in google for SCJP mock exam questions. Also, bunch of books for the preparation. Do not read each book and try every mock question you find on internet, that will land you in a clear confusion. Some of them are really tough and some are really not worth reading or solving. Here goes my suggestion and guidance for SCJP 1.5 preparation.
- Kathy Sierra (the Book Author) was a part of real SCJP (1.4) exam question development team (read this somewhere long ago). She had written the book ‘SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide’, which is very relevant and close to the syllabus of the exam. So, you could trust this book, brainlessly. Yet, her way of writing is quite clear and fun, you will really enjoy reading the book.
- Read the book completely (only the chapters covering the syllabus) and make ‘Thumb Rules’ out of it. This is very very important. By the way, what is a Thumb Rule? Thumb Rule is a kind of formula, extracted from a paragraph of theory. Once you created Thumb Rules, you may never have to read the whole book again. Sample Thumb Rules are:
1. “abstract and final can never be a combination”
2. “in overriding, the child class method’s scope should be broader, and exception level should be narrower than that of parent”
- Before going to any mock exam, solve the Self Test questions given at the end of each chapter of the book. They are very close to the questions in the real exam. Even the Author insists the same point in her book.
- Work out the mock exam questions given in the CD that comes along with the book.
- Once you are done with the Thumb Rule creation and self test questions, now search for mock exam questions. As I said already, you will find hundreds and thousands of links in google. But, wait. How much you could solve actually? Find out how much would be worth solving and spending time.
- Here is the collection of all SCJP Mock exam questions: JavaRanch mock
- Not all the mock exams belong to SCJP 1.5. Some of them belong to earlier versions. So, ignore them if you find irrelevant questions.
If you want to try out toughest questions, then try. Marcus Green’s mock exam (given in the same page). I feel that Marcus Green’s mock exam is the toughest of all, I ever tried.
Best of luck in your exam, and post here questions, comments if you have any!
